Philosophy and Approach:  Although my philosophy and approach to counseling continues to unfold, the foundation of my work is based on the theory and work of Alfred Adler. Alfred Adler believed that all people are relational by nature, and as a result all person's strive to find belonging in life, in work, and in love.  I believe that all people have inherent worth and have the capacity to grow towards personal fulfillment.  My philosophy also encompasses an element of transgenerational systems theory and interpersonal neurobiology.  These elements of therapy allow for more depth in working with presenting problems and seeing the intricate interconnection between an individual and environment, including family history, culture, and gender.

As a therapist I see my role as a collaborative facilitator of change.  I do this through a practical, supportive, and empathic approach that recognizes the unique challenges of each individual and system.

Education and Training:
II am a Licensed Professional Counselor through the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.  I hold a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from George Fox University and have been in private practice in Tigard, Oregon for two and a half years.  My coursework and study has included specialized focus in couples therapy (Imago Relationship Therapy, Interpersonal Communications/Couple Communication Training).  I also have training in Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and traditional Talk Therapy, as well as a number of assessment tools such as Prepare/Enrich, and the 16pf.

Prior to my work as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I worked in the world of vocational rehabilitation and career counseling, helping individuals with learning disabilities, and other conditions like ADHD. My Bachelor's Degree is in Elementary Education. Each of these expereinces has influenced my work by broadening my understanding of the human condition, and increasing my heart for helping people find meaningful ways to connect with the world and find self fulfillment.

Currently, I am pursuing another licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).  As of this publication,  I have also completed all of the hours required to obtain the LMFT, and will be taking the exam for this license in June, 2007.
