"It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work.
And when we no longer know which way to go
we have begun our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings."

Each of us, as we travel through life, meets challenges.  During these times it's common to feel "stuck" and have difficulty in discovering our own  path. Counseling is a unique opportunity to engage in the journey of discovery in a supportive, caring, and non-judgmental environment.  It is also an opportunity to be challenged to discover choices that are creating difficulty in our lives.

I believe that individually, and in partnership, we are driven by a desire to discover our best self, to be happy, to belong, to feel worthwhile, and to find meaning in our lives.  I also believe that we have within us the capacity and resiliency to realize the changes that will help to reach those goals.

As your therapist, I work collaboratively with you to discover your individual strengths and expertise so that we may utilize them in your experience of growth.  I use a variety of therapeutic concepts and tools to address your concerns, depending on your situation and how you work best.  I approach this process from a system's perspective which recognizes the role of family, culture, environment, and experience in creating the lens through which we view our world, our relationships, and ourselves.  I  see my role as one of assisting you in the exploration of your personal path to recovering a sense of well-being in your life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Oregon Board of Licensed Counselors and Therapists.  I hold a Master's Degree in Counseling from Portland State University, completing both the Marriage and Family Therapy and Individual Counseling programs.  Coursework included Marriage and Family Systems, Advanced Family Therapy, Counseling Children and Youth, Solution Focused Counseling, and Advanced CouplesTherapy.  Additional training includes Clinical Supervision, Motivational Interviewing, Working with Parents, Couples Counseling, and Multigenerational Family Therapy.

I have counseling experience in both private and non-profit settings with traditional and non-traditional couples, adults, teens, and families, and as a clinical supervisor and trainer of counseling interns.  I  work with people on a wide variety of topics such as all relationship concerns, depression, bereavement, anxiety, trauma, communication, caregiver stresses, and life transitions.  I am especially interested in working with couples in all stages of relationship, families in all stages including parenting, blending families, launching children, and divorce and co-parenting concerns.
